So, you arrive at the Suncoast from somewhere up north and start to look for a home. A multitude of real estate opportunities abound ranging from the wonderful historic homes on Venice Island to brand new developments popping up everywhere. After looking around you begin to ask yourself “where did all the woodwork go?”. You remember woodwork…moldings, window and door trim, built-ins, coffered ceilings, beamed ceilings, wainscoting, shiplap, etc. You might not know it from looking at the new builds, but woodwork is alive and well!
Customizing your home with woodwork adds character and sophistication. It creates a welcoming atmosphere and adds value to your home. Let’s take a closer look at walls and ceilings. Trimming out a wall can add tremendous visual appeal to a room. A simple square panel treatment with crown molding can have a dramatic effect with bold colors.

A planked ceiling with beams will further evoke a beach theme while a coffered ceiling will lend more formality.
Whatever your aesthetic, the details matter when it comes to woodwork. Most people will notice when things don’t look quite right, yet they can’t put their finger on why. A good job starts with a design that follows proper principles of balance and proportion (yes, those principles exist) and it finishes with skilled craftsmanship. Don’t make the mistake of skimping on this project. A knowledgeable designer and an experienced finish carpenter is a must.
